This being said, Seattle really needs to play a bit stronger compared to their latest efforts, including being behind thrown into service on less than a week's notice Phillip Rivers. Matthew Stafford and company are going to force the Seahawks to be strong throughout. The 12's will come out in full force and I think they'll be the deciding factor that will bring more chaos to the NFC West.

Rick's Pick: SEATTLE

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Commanders - Saturday, 5:00pm on FOX 23 WXXA

The first Saturday game may of been a stronger divisional match earlier in the season when the Commanders were coming fresh off their playoff run last season, but injuries have turned this into what could feel like a lopsided appetizer to the main event later on Saturday. Philadelphia has issues, yes, but I cannot trust Washington.

Rick's Pick: PHILADELPHIA

Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears - Saturday, 8:20pm on FOX 23 WXXA

Now this should be fun. Green Bay traditionally owns Chicago, so that might be the edge I go with. But Green Bay also now has to adjust to a playoff push without Micha Parsons, who torn his ACL last week. The Packers are a team that are questionable at times, but you cannot deny their record. Nor can you deny the presence that Caleb Williams is finally having with the Bears. 2 weeks ago the Bears lost at Lambeau Field 28-21. Can they learn their lessons learned for this match?

Rick's Pick: GREEN BAY

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers - Sunday, 1:00pm

Both teams had a chance to take firm control heading into this first of two meetings between these two teams over the next three weeks. But they both lost last week -- though Carolina's is more concerning as they now have lost both games against the New Orleans Saints. Bryce Young still isn't providing staggering stats, which would make Baker Mayfield the better quarterback on paper of the two, but who knows what is going to happen in a divisional match.

Rick's Pick: TAMPA BAY

Buffalo Bills at Cleveland Browns - Sunday, 1:00pm on CBS 6 WRGB

The Bills know they need to play this game strong, failure to do so could result in the New England Patriots winning the AFC East later on Sunday. This being said, the Bills also have the best chance they have this season to make the comeback to win the division, with the Patriots facing Baltimore. While you cannot control what other teams do, you have to take care of what you do. But Buffalo needs to play a full 60 minute game, this second half comeback that they've had the past two weeks, isn't sustainable.

Rick's Pick: BUFFALO

Los Angeles Chargers at Dallas Cowboys, Sunday 1:00pm

The Chargers kept pace with Buffalo as the best AFC wild card team and gave Kansas City their first elimination from playoff contention in Patrick Mahomes's career. Now they can end another team's playoff aspirations, even if those aspirations are so minimal that they could be dead by the time the two teams take the field on Sunday. You can't deny what Dak, George and CeeDee can do, but that defense even with some mid-season modifications, still needs some help.

Rick's Pick: LA CHARGERS

New York Jets at New Orleans Saints, Sunday 1:00pm

The worst in the AFC East takes on the worst in the NFC South. A thriller that only people in Louisiana and New York City will get to watch. I really don't have any thoughts about this one, going to side with New Orleans based on how they've played competitively all season.

Rick's Pick: NEW ORLEANS

Minnesota Vikings at New York Giants, Sunday 1:00pm on FOX 23 WXXA

I still can't figure out this Minnesota Vikings squad. J.J. McCarthy is playing slightly better as the season progresses, but he's still having a bit of communication issues with one of the best receivers he has in Justin Jefferson. But one can turn a blind eye to that when the Vikings win like they did against the Dallas Cowboys. While the players may not be trying to keep the #1 draft pick, management and coaching might.

Rick's Pick: MINNESOTA

Kansas City Chiefs at Tennessee Titans, Sunday 1:00pm

The vibe feels different with Kanas City in both how they were eliminated from playoff contention and how they lost Patrick Mahomes for the rest of the season in the same game. I would feel more worried about Kansas City if they weren't facing the Titans.

Rick's Pick: KANSAS CITY

Cincinnati Bengals at Miami Dolphins, Sunday 1:00pm

So they're benching Tua, according to reports. The Chargers were gift-wrapped a win thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles -- and Jalen Hurts's 4 picks. While LA won the first game in Brazil, this one might be harder to pull off.

Rick's Pick: KANSAS CITY

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS 6 WRGB

I don't think the Bills have fully sorted out the ailments of their team, and New England is wanting nothing more than to clinch the division for the first time in 6 years on their home field in front of a division rival. I don't think the sports world was talking much about Drake Maye when the teams met first time, but they sure are talking about him now.

Two things work against the Buffalo Bills here, first being that the game is in Foxboro and that the Patriots are fresh off their bye week.

Rick's Pick: NEW ENGLAND

Washington Commanders at New York Giants - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX 23 WXXA

The Giants may be the spread favorites, but I have little reason believing they would come away winners. They're in line for the #1 draft pick, and Washington will do their best to wreck the Giants "tank". Both teams are eliminated, and longing for better times.

Rick's Pick: NY GIANTS

Las Vegas Raiders at Philadelphia Eagles - Sunday, 1:00pm

Jalen Hurts may have had a night to forget on Monday night, throwing 4 of his 6 picks this season. He had an embarrassing play in the 2nd quarter where he not only threw a pick, but also fumbled the ball when the Chargers gave him back the ball on a fumble of their own. The best remedy for him and the Eagles is a home game against the Las Vegas Raiders who are eliminated and have a lot of question marks on offense... and defense.

Rick's Pick: PHILADELPHIA

New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars - Sunday, 1:00pm

It's been a weird season for Jacksonville, but when you look at their resume, the teams they have lost to you can understand why -- two of the best teams in the NFC, a surging Houston Texans team that could be battling for the AFC South in the closing weeks, and a Cincinnati Bengals team that had Joe Burrow in the lineup until his turf toe knocked him out midway through the game. The Jets ... well, the less said about them, the better.

Rick's Pick: JACKSONVILLE

Arizona Cardinals at Houston Texans - Sunday, 1:00pm

One of the league's best defenses vs. a wounded Arizona squad. Green Bay doesn't offer many opportunities as Jordan Love only has 4 interceptions this season and is complimented well by Josh Jacobs with his 12 rushing touchdowns. But the Denver defense is relentless. They create opportunities. Bo Nix has 4th quarter magic, but one of these days the Broncos will need to play a full game. The home field advantage might be the difference here as the Broncos are undefeated at Mile High this season.

Rick's Pick: DENVER

Detroit Lions at Los Angeles Rams - Sunday, 4:25pm, FOX 23 WXXA

The Detroit Lions ... they are a mysterious team. They have quality talent, but a questionable secondary that has caused them to lose some games. But when you think to count them out, they come back with a game like they did against the Dallas Cowboys. The Los Angeles Rams are going to be a difficult foe for a team trying to fight their way into the NFC's convoluted playoff picture, And with the game being in Los Angeles, I'm going to side with the Rams here.

Rick's Pick: LA RAMS

Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints - Sunday, 4:25pm

The New Orleans Saints play tough, and Carolina knows that after losing the first game between these two teams in Carolina. Yes, it was a green quarterback pressed into service due to injuries, but the Vikings already looked awkward beforehand. But Washington has had quarterback issues themselves. The main difference is that the Commanders QB's at least have shown they can handle the pressure.

Rick's Pick: Washington

Miami Dolphins at New York Jets - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS 6 WRGB

The Jets had a nice win over the Atlanta Falcons last week, but could have a harder time keeping the Miami Dolphins at bay.

Rick's Picks: Miami

Cincinnati Bengals at Buffalo Bills - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX 23 WXXA

The Bills had a great second half against Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers but now they have to try to contain a Joe Burrow rejuvenated Cincinnati offense that looked inspired against the Baltimore Ravens. The Bills will need to come out of the locker room at 12:55 ready to play, otherwise they will be pushed into the catch up position that has made them uncomfortable in multiple games over the season. While I believe they can, I can also see a world where Joe Burrow leads the Bengals to the road victory, too.

Rick's Pick: Buffalo

New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Sunday, 1:00pm

Tampa Bay should win their second in a row as they welcome Mike Evans back to the lineup.

Rick's Pick: Tampa Bay

Denver Broncos at Las Vegas Raiders - Sunday, 4:05pm

Denver keeps playing with fire, they had to go to overtime against the Washington Commanders before they emerged with their 10th win of the season. While Las Vegas being a divisional rival could be concerning, I don't think it's enough to stop Bo Nix and company in sin city.

Rick's Pick: Denver

Los Angeles Rams at Arizona Cardinals - Sunday, 4:25pm

The Los Angeles Rams may have lost to the Carolina Panthers, but I do not see the Cardinals at this time having enough to overcome the Rams. Maybe if some of the regular starters were back with Arizona ... but even there, Stafford and Nauca will torch the Cardinals.

Rick's Pick: Los Angeles Rams

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers - Sunday, 4:25pm, FOX 23 WXXA

Now this will be a good match. I'm going to go with Green Bay on the basis that the Packers have owned Chicago over the years, and Josh Jacobs looked solid last week in his return to the lineup. Caleb Williams has blossomed and helped Chicago become one of the best NFC teams in 2025, but I feel the home field advantage moves the needle towards the Pack.

Rick's Pick: Green Bay

Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs - Sunday, 8:20pm, NBC 13 WNYT

Houston's defense is on fire, and they've taken a big step up thanks to their divisional win over Indianapolis last week. Kansas City is in a spot they haven't been in over a half decade, and needing to claw up into a playoff spot. The Chiefs will play hard, but the Texans defense can create opportunities. Now if only the Texans had a strong offense to compliment their defense.

Rick's Pick: Houston

Philadelphia Eagles at Los Angeles Chargers - Monday, 8:15pm, ESPN

Philadelphia has some serious problems and if they don't correct them in time, they'll find themselves locked up with a surging Dallas Cowboys squad. The Chargers may be without Justin Herbert and that might help borrow the Eagles some time to figure out their struggles.

Rick's Pick: Philadelphia

Don't forget to get your Week 14 picks in now on the Q101.7 app. The New England Patriots also won, against a quality opponent in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rhemondre Stevenson being out is no problem since the Patriots have found another option at the running back position, this one who can hold onto the football ... for now.

The Bills fans really need the Jets to help them out... but they're not going to get it this week.

RICK'S PICK: New England

Washington Commanders vs. Miami Dolphins (in Madrid, Spain) - Sunday, 9:30am on NFL Network

The final of the "international series" games pegs a Miami team that sent Buffalo into a panic because they helped reaffirm a problem first showcased when the New England Patriots beat them a few weeks prior against a Washington Commanders team fresh off a drubbing by the Detroit Lions. For Tua's problems all season long, at least he's been mostly working with the same receiver corps compared to Washington.

RICK'S PICK: Miami

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons - Sunday, 1:00PM

Carolina shut out Atlanta the first time these teams met. But Carolina also just got shell-shocked by the New Orleans Saints this past week. While the Panthers have learned they have a threat with Rico Dowdle, you cannot forget Atlanta has Bijan Robinson. And Atlanta is going to want it to be known that the loss in Week 2 was a fluke, not a marking for the pecking order in the NFC South.

RICK'S PICK: Atlanta

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Buffalo Bills - Sunday, 1:00PM on CBS6 WRGB

Okay, if Buffalo didn't have their reality check back when they lost to New England and Atlanta in back-to-back weeks, they better have learned from this past week against Miami. That loss to the Miami Dolphins really took the wheels off the wagons in Buffalo, listening to how podcasts and flagship WGR has been reacting to Sunday.

And the Bills better have adjusted. The narrative behind last Sunday's loss is how the Bills are weak when you stop James Cook, and Miami tailored their defensive structure towards forcing Josh Allen to throw to a receiving corps that are not creating separation and thus are not getting open down the field.

Buffalo's not in trouble just yet, but let's be serious -- if they lose on Sunday and go 2 1/2 games behind the New England Patriots for the AFC East (plus the Patriots owning the tie-breaker for now), they better be ready to pack their bags to go on the road for the Wild Card round in January.... if they still maintain position to make it there.

This game being at home learns my pick towards Buffalo, but any news coming out in the next 2 days could easily lean it towards the Bucs.

RICK'S PICK: Buffalo ... for now.

Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans - Sunday, 1:00PM

Only a small portion will get this game, and you have to either be in the southern tip of Texas or the Nashville metro area to be ... lucky ... to receive this game. Let's just give Houston the even record at 5-5 and move on, shall we?

RICK'S PICK: Houston

Green Bay Packers at New York Giants - Sunday, 1:00PM on FOX23 WXXA

Green Bay needs this after the last two weeks. Given the injury issues and the now new coach dynamic in New York, maybe the new coach can inspire the players to pick up the upset against the Green Bay Packers, but for now I feel like the talent level for Green Bay is much stronger and thus will be in line for the win.

RICK'S PICK: Green Bay

Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers - Sunday, 1:00PM

Joe Flacco is now on borrowed time. Now that it's become known that Joe Burrow is returning to practice, Joe Flacco's main task is to salvage the Bengals season. A win against a divisional rival that looked empty against the Los Angeles Chargers would be a good start. But with the game being in Pittsburgh, I don't know.

Flacco has the ability, and I've swung wrong on Pittsburgh essentially the entire season sans a couple weeks...

RICK'S PICK: Pittsburgh

Los Angeles Chargers at Jacksonville Jaguars - Sunday, 1:00PM

Both teams puzzle me. The Chargers will lose to a team like the Giants, have a banged up offensive line and other key injuries, yet still find ways to win against teams like Pittsburgh. The Jacksonville Jaguars also have been so inconsistent this season. One week the Jags look like they could make it to the third weekend of January, the next they look like a team that might not make it beyond the first weekend of January.

I might just have to flip a coin here.

RICK'S PICK: LA Chargers

Seattle Seahawks at Los Angeles Rams - Sunday, 4:05PM

The best game that won't be available to us locally will have ramifications towards the path of the NFC West. And it's going to be a battle of two great wideouts - Jaxon Smith-Njigba for Seattle and Puka Nacua for Los Angeles. This has the potential to be a high-scoring game, especially after the games the two teams had before this week.

I might just have to give the edge to the home team, because this could come down to the final posession.

RICK'S PICK: LA Rams

San Francisco 49'ers at Arizona Cardinals - Sunday, 4:05PM

This, however, won't be close. A week after quite a victory against the Dallas Cowboys, the Cardinals looked anything but the basement of the NFC West against the Seattle Seahawks. They better have a plan for stopping Christian McCaffrey... but I don't think it's possible against a player who has wracked up over 1300 all-purpose yards this season.

RICK'S PICK: San Francisco

Last week was tough. He probably won't play much due to unfamiliarity with the Colts play book and the jet lag, but it gives the Colts another option.

Rick's Pick: Indianapolis

New York Giants at Chicago Bears - Sunday, 1:00pm, WXXA FOX 23

Two weeks the Giants looked alright with Jaxson Dart, but they have not shown they can be successful on the road. While Chicago may have had inflated numbers last week due to a turnstile Cincinnati defense, they have a more complete team than what the Giants have at this point.

Rick's Pick: Chicago

Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins - Sunday, 1:00pm, WRGB CBS 6

Don't circle the Buffalo Bills just yet, their trip to Southern Florida has been a trap in past years, especially when it's hot. On paper, the Bills are better set up for success compared to the Miami dysfunction, however ... divisional matchups have done weird things to the Buffalo Bills in the past. I'm pushing for Buffalo, but am very cautious here.

Rick's Pick: Buffalo

Baltimore Ravens at Minnesota Vikings - Sunday, 1:00pm

The Baltimore Ravens looked better last week when they lost the battle of two teams who have had rough seasons. I'm not fully trusting Baltimore yet, but I do like them over Minnesota. Yes, beating Detroit was nice, but 14/25 and 143 yards isn't a strong showing for J.J. McCarthy.

Rick's Pick: Baltimore

Cleveland Browns at New York Jets - Sunday, 1:00pm

Unless you are in the New York Metro area, the state of Ohio, or have the Sunday ticket, you won't get to see this game. The two teams are a combined 3-13. I'll root for the home team and write this off as a foundation for the #1 draft pick if I'm wrong.

Rick's Pick: NY Jets

New England Patriots at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Sunday, 1:00pm

Surprisingly the best game in the early window is between these two teams. Drake Maye may not be an earth-shattering quarterback just yet for New England, but he's getting close. Beating the Bills was nice, but if New England walks out of this with an 8-2 record, you bet more people will be talking about Maye and the Pats. But Baker Mayfield and company are a formidable foe and they could still use some marquee wins despite their 6-2 record.

Rick's Pick: Tampa Bay

New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers - 1:00pm

The Carolina Panthers being above .500 after 9 weeks feels weird, and now they have a chance to improve on this. The coaching staff limited Bryce Young's usage to short passes against Green Bay, and just let Rico Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard churn up yards on the ground. That strategy won't be sustainable, but it could help earn the Panthers another win against one of the worse teams in the NFC.

Rick's Pick: Carolina

Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans - 1:00pm

This is a divisional trap for a Jacksonville team that has played well at times, but it really depends how well Trevor Lawrence plays. Against a defensive unit that knows Lawrence well, his 9 touchdown to 6 interception rate could be pushed. I don't think Houston's a great team, but a divisional match up means anything can happen.

Rick's Pick: Houston

[sun 4p/8p mon 8p coming soon]

Make sure you get your picks in on the Q101.7 App for your chance to win food from Bogie's Pub + Grill!

Week 8 felt like it went better. Injuries took what should of been one of the better games on the TNF slate and turned it into a team to see who is having a worser season. But Lamar Jackson is back and while Miami has the home field advantage, I just think the Baltimore Ravens are ready to make a run .. and they're one of the more dangerous teams that are outside looking in at the midway point of the season.

Rick's Pick: Baltimore [X - did you know if you forget to pick on the app, it counts as a missed pick?]

We've made it through 1/3rd of the season, and there's still a lot of questions when it comes to the 32 teams in the NFL. With a 10:3 TD/INT rate, it's got Mike Tomlin and company thinking about not just playing football in January, but beyond the first weekend like they did in 2024 when they lost to the Buffalo Bills. Too early to know how Joe Flacco is going to play out in Cincinnati, but he's going to have a rough time with this Steelers defense.

Spoiler Alert: He did not.

RICK'S PICK: Pittsburgh [X]

Los Angeles Rams vs. Jacksonville Jaguars in London - Sunday, 9:30pm, NFL Network

The last of the London games surely has to be better than this past Sunday's.... right? On paper, it should, with Matthew Stafford tossing a 6:1 touchdown to interception ratio this season, but Trevor Lawrence is playing better for the Jags. However, the Jags had a bit of a tough loss against the Seahawks off a monumental win against the Chiefs the previous week. And the Rams have the uncertainty of whether Puka Nacua is joining the Rams for the London trip with his injury last week. LA is favored, but don't count out the Jags.

RICK'S PICK: Jacksonville

New Orleans Saints vs. Chicago Bears - Sunday, 1:00pm

Time to give Spencer Rattler some respect. 6 touchdowns, 1 interception, which is a lot better than some quarterbacks have been through the first 6 weeks of the season. But as much as New Orleans stays competitive through most of the game, they need to finish. The lone win coming against the New York Giants says something. Chicago is coming off a narrow escape from the Washington Commanders in a game where the Commanders more beat themselves than the Bears did. That being said, the Bears are a wacky Monday Night comeback from being 4-1 in the league thanks to Caleb Williams and his offense.

RICK'S PICK: Chicago

Miami Dolphins at Cleveland Browns - Sunday, 1:00pm

It's the dysfunction bowl. Tua Tagovailoa's issues on offense has been well documented, with 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions this season. Cleveland's lone win is starting to be written off as "Any Given Sunday" given the past few weeks since that Green Bay victory. Miami's win, against the New York Jets.

This is a game where the talent level of the Dolphins, if they can keep it together, could result in a win.

RICK'S PICK: Miami

New England Patriots at Tennessee Titans - Sunday, 1:00pm

Drake Maye's growth is scaring those in the AFC East, and the Patriots are in a place they haven't seen since Tom Brady as a result of their win over the Bills and the Bills following that up with a loss to Atlanta on Monday. Stefon Diggs is enjoying scooping up the yards for the Pats. Now if only Rhamondre Stevenson would become a consistent running back. Tennessee hasn't looked good all season and was gifted their lone win of the season.

RICK'S PICK: New England

Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs - Sunday, 1:00pm

Kansas City is getting better, the team is healing up, and now Rasheed Rice returns to the team off his suspension. Patrick Mahomes is not giving teams a lot of opportunities to beat him. But, don't overlook the Raiders, this is a position they've been in before when they've upset the Kansas City Chiefs. They'll have to play perfect to pull it off, however... and I can't see them doing that.

RICK'S PICK: Kansas City

Philadelphia Eagles at Minnesota Vikings - Sunday, 1:00pm

That was a stunner last week against the Giants. Now ... does that get the Eagles off their hinds and fix the issues that have come to haunt them so far this season, or are they going to try to false start another tush push? The Vikings came from behind to beat the Cleveland Browns before their bye week in a game that could of very well went the other direction, and maybe it should have. Justin Jefferson is the shining spot for the Vikings, but he can't excel without a stable quarterback throwing to him... and I'm not sure either Wentz or McCarthy is it yet.

RICK'S PICK: Philadelphia

Carolina Panthers at New York Jets - Sunday, 1:00pm, WXXA FOX 23

The Carolina Panthers are 0-3 away from home. The New York Jets are 0-4 at Met Life Stadium. Something's got to give here, and I'm more inclined to give the needle in Carolina's favor for what Rico Dowdle did for the Panthers the last two weeks. While Carolina's winning ways may come to an end after this week with games against Buffalo, Green Bay, and both the Rams and 49'ers on the docket before their bye week, they should enjoy having a team not contending for the #1 draft pick after 7 weeks.

The same can't be said for Jets fans.

RICK'S PICK: Carolina

New York Giants at Denver Broncos - Sunday, 4:05pm, WRGB CBS 6

Bo Nix led the Denver Broncos to victory over the New York Jets in England, but it wasn't pretty. His 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions are worrying, but it's thanks to other talent like J.K. Dobbins and Courtland Sutton that has the Broncos 4-2 on the season. But while they're at home, they get a Giants team that has been looking better over the past few weeks thanks to Jaxson Dart at the helm. Now, that loss to New Orleans still stings, and their two wins are against a very sketchy Philadelphia squad and a banged up Los Angeles Chargers team, but this could be the game to show those two wins weren't flukes. Either that, or the Broncos will take away the Giants' mile-high attitude after last week.

RICK'S PICK: New York Giants

Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Chargers - Sunday, 4:05pm

Case in point, those Chargers now have to put up with Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts. 7 touchdowns and 603 yards for Taylor, and just over 1500 yards passing for Daniel Jones has the Colts with the best record in the NFL through 6 weeks. Now is it for real? I've got questions as 8 different defenders for Los Angeles are on IR, 3 of the 5 linemen for the Chargers are on their injury reports, and they have two running backs on IR too.

The Chargers are going to want those injured legs back on the field before it undoes their season.

RICK'S PICK: Indianapolis

Washington Commanders at Dallas Cowboys - Sunday, 4:25pm, WXXA FOX 23

The hurt Commanders lost a tough one to the Chicago Bears last week, but now face a less traumatizing defense this time around. Hopefully Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel return, the Commanders need them back badly. And while George Pickens had a career game last week in a losing effort against Carolina, I'm trusting the Commanders more than I trust that Dallas defense.

RICK'S PICK: Washington

Green Bay Packers at Arizona Cardinals - Sunday, 4:25pm

The mood has cooled on the Green Bay Packers but that doesn't mean one can rest their laurels on them, they come off their bye week with a 3-1-1 record with a fluke loss to Cleveland and a defensive meltdown that led to their tie against Dallas. The Packers are still a solid team and Jordan Love will make sure Josh Jacobs will feast on the ball. Arizona ... I don't know what to say about them, what felt like maybe an opportunity to show themselves as a team to watch in the NFC West is slowly fading to the abyss.

RICK'S PICK: Green Bay

Atlanta Falcons at San Francisco 49'ers - Sunday, 8:20pm, WNYT NBC Channel 13

Atlanta is coming off a statement win against the Buffalo Bills, but bear in mind that a strong piece of why they beat the Bills was the inability of Buffalo to defend against the run. San Francisco will bring pressure, plus they will have a strong counter themselves in Christian McCaffrey. It's shaping up to be a fun Sunday Night showdown between him and Bijan Robinson, the only question in my eyes is how banged up is San Francisco still. Atlanta may escape from the west coast with a 4-2 record.

RICK'S PICK: Atlanta

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Detroit Lions - Monday, 7:00pm, WTEN ABC 10 + ESPN

This could be the best game of the Week 7 slate. The Giants won, and I was wrong on my pick. I was expecting the Eagles to use the game against the Broncos as a reality check and to course correct, however, they did not. Many of the same issues that plagued them over the past 5 weeks also affected them here, and the Giants are developing one heck of running game with Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo. 4 rushing touchdowns among those two on Thursday.

RICK'S PICK: Philadelphia [X]

Denver Broncos vs. New York Jets (in London), Sunday, 9:30am on NFL Network

I think it's time for me to stop thinking of Bo Nix as a reason to pick against a team. And to stop discounting a team defense that I am not familiar with because the Broncos defense definitely showed that they are better than I gave them credit for. The Broncos defense is what I feel the Jets defense should of been this year, but ... they aren't. On top of that, the Jets are just not looking good as the NFL's lone winless team. I don't see this changing during this trip to London.

RICK'S PICK: Denver

Los Angeles Rams at Baltimore Ravens, Sunday, 1:00pm

The Ravens are in free fall mode, but they will have Lamar Jackson back from his hamstring injury. But they get a dangerous Rams team that has had a chance to rest off their overtime loss to the San Francisco 49'ers last week. I expect Matthew Stafford and company to rebound from their Week 5 woes in a game that could be close as the Ravens try to finally sort stuff out.

RICK'S PICK: Los Angeles Rams

Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers, Sunday, 1:00pm on WXXA FOX 23

The Dallas Cowboys have had weeks where they have looked okay, but it was against teams that have not looked good, either at that time or throughout the season. They beat the New York Giants before the Giants switched their quarterbacks, and they beat the New York Jets with ease ... but the Jets are winless. That doesn't convince me. But Carolina has two faces. The face that looks dismal on the road, like we saw against New England and Arizona, and the good face that wins at home, like last week against Miami. The hometown factor is why I'll go with Carolina and not be surprise if Bryce Young has another dud and Dallas proves me wrong.

RICK'S PICK: Carolina

Arizona Cardinals at Indianapolis Colts, Sunday, 1:00pm

What the hay, Arizona? That meltdown against Tennessee was epic, and should have NEVER had happened. Here's a plea to every player of this game, whether you are pee wee, high school, collegiate or professional ... HOLD ONTO THE FOOTBALL UNTIL YOU ARE CONFIRMED IN THE END ZONE....

Now, good luck against Jonathan Taylor. You're gonna need it.

RICK'S PICK: Indianapolis

Seattle Seahawks at Jacksonville Jaguars, Sunday, 1:00pm

I would rather see this game than the Dallas/Carolina game, FOX. Won't get it, but I think this will be the better game on the FOX early slate. Jacksonville had a significant win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, though it wasn't easy with how that last play happened from Trevor Lawrence. Seattle has been a surprise in the NFC West this season with Sam Darnold and even though they are coming off a tough loss against Tampa Bay, it was competitive and could of gone either way. But Jacksonville is rolling with the momentum and at home in the Florida heat.

RICK'S PICK: Jacksonville [X]

Los Angeles Chargers at Miami Dolphins, Sunday, 1:00pm

The Chargers are banged up and are now down yet another running back. Miami's a dysfunctional team without their primary wide out. Justin Herbert has been affected as a result to the running back issues and the offensive line, and so too has his receiving corps. But I trust banged up offensive 11 vs. full out dysfunction.

RICK'S PICK: Los Angeles Chargers

Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday, 1:00pm, WRGB CBS 6

Pittsburgh has been gifted the upper path towards taking the NFC North, and it's not through anything they have done, but through the misfortune of the teams surrounding them in their division like Baltimore's issues and having Lamar Jackson being sidelined for a few weeks, and Cincinnati losing Joe Burrow due to his turf toe. Now this could be a trap game for Pittsburgh given past meetings with the Cleveland Browns, but I need to feel a lot more confident in Cleveland's abilities before I pick them to upset a divisional rival.

RICK'S PICK: Pittsburgh

New England Patriots at New Orleans Saints, Sunday, 1:00pm

There is a reality that the New England Patriots could possess the AFC East lead after this week is done. Drake Maye sparkled for the New England Patriots against the Buffalo Bills, with the help of Stefon Diggs having a revenge game against his former team. And if Rhamondre Stevenson could hold onto the ball in critical spots, he would be a top back for a team that is emerging out of the basement. New Orleans has played teams tough all season, and the fruit of their labors resulted in beating the New York Giants last week. But New England is a stronger team, and with the Bills playing a tough Atlanta Falcons team with a strong running back, it could be the first time since 2020 that we see the Patriots leading the division.

RICK'S PICK: New England

Tennessee Titans at Las Vegas Raiders, Sunday, 4:05pm

So Tennessee picked up their first win last week, but it wasn't convincing. It required an Arizona team that more got in their own way than Tennessee stopping them from scoring. And while Las Vegas has had some growing pains with Pete Carroll at the helm and Geno Smith as their quarterback, I feel more confident in them than I do Tennessee.

RICK'S PICK: Las Vegas

San Francisco 49'ers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sunday, 4:25pm, WXXA FOX 23

The 49'ers have been getting by with injured key players for the entire season and touts a 4-1 record as a result. However, they are faced with a tough challenge on the road where Baker Mayfield awaits. You can never count Baker Mayfield out, even when the names and numbers change around him. Plus this game is being played in Tampa Bay, instead of the west coast.

RICK'S PICK: Tampa Bay

Cincinnati Bengals at Green Bay Packers, Sunday, 4:25pm

Joe Flacco is now a Bengal, and the question is -- has he had enough time to properly study the playbook? It feels like Flacco will be attempting to get by with a basic book and will have that book opened up to him with more time next week. Green Bay is not the team we were thinking they were over the first couple weeks, but against a team not 100%, I don't think it's going to matter.

RICK'S PICK: Green Bay

Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday, 8:20pm, WNYT NBC Channel 13

The Kansas City Chiefs are having issues, and maybe some of those issues last week was the surprise ankle issue that caused Xavier Worthy to garnish an injury designation on Sunday into Monday last week against Jacksonville. That being said, this is the final week of Rasheed Rice being suspended for the Chiefs, so one will have to see how the Chiefs look by comparison heading into the second third of the season. After a week one stumble, Detroit looks solid. Both ends of the ball. Yes, this is being played in Kansas City, but the Lions aren't the first NFC team to come seeking a win in 2025.

RICK'S PICK: Detroit [X]

Buffalo Bills at Atlanta Falcons, Monday, 7:15pm, ESPN

The Buffalo Bills may be reeling after a loss to the New England Patriots last week, but bad news, Bills fans. Their defense is rocky and to make matters worse, they are faced with the need to defend one of the top running backs in the country in Bijan Robinson. And they are fresh off the bye week. This could become a shootout and Michael Penix Jr. has figured stuff out since losing that divisional match against the Panthers.

RICK'S PICK: Atlanta

Chicago Bears at Washington Commanders, Monday, 8:15pm, WTEN ABC 10

Since getting blown out by the Detroit Lions in Week 2, the Bears bounced back with two straight wins, though the quality of that road win against the Las Vegas Raiders is up for debate. They have a difficult challenge against a Washington Commanders team that has Jayden Daniels back, but they still have quite a few missing pieces. Austin Ekeler's on IR, and Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown. Plus, Deebo Samuel is questionable. So the question becomes -- who is Daniels throwing to this week?

Those injuries, combined with the Bears coming off their bye week, could open the door for the Bears. And hopefully the Bears remember what happened to them last year that essentially changed their season for the worse.

RICK'S PICK: Chicago

Well, that happened. Carolina got served up some humble pie against the New England Patriots. This game could be closer than one would of thought a few weeks ago.

Rick's Pick: Carolina

Las Vegas Raiders at Indianapolis Colts - Sun 1:00pm

Geno Smith and the Las Vegas Raiders have to stop turning the ball over, and now they face a team that feasted on turnovers a couple weeks ago. While Indianapolis got served their first loss last week, it was a team that has been strong against good teams. And with one of the strongest backs in the league, the Colts should roll.

Rick's Pick: Indianapolis

New York Giants at New Orleans Saints - Sun 1:00pm WRGB CBS 6

The Giants looked respectable with Jaxson Dart under center against the Los Angeles Chargers, however the Giants now have to figure out who will get the ball with Nebor's ACL tear. New Orleans has played teams tight, but the fruits of their labor has not shown up in the WIN column. If Dart improves off his first start the Giants might be able to pull off the upset.

Rick's Pick: New York Giants

Dallas Cowboys at New York Jets - Sun 1:00pm WXXA FOX 23

The Dallas Cowboys defense is very suspect and was exposed big time against the New York Giants. However, the Jets offense has been rather inconsistent as they have had to go between Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor as their quarterback. What didn't help the Jets last week was three turnovers to the Miami Dolphins. Got to take better care of the football if you're going to come away with your first win.

Rick's Pick: Dallas

Denver Broncos at Philadelphia Eagles - Sun 1:00pm

The Philadelphia Eagles of 2025 have been very perplexing. The game against Tampa Bay was very nerve-wrecking, and they had to take advantage of a blocked field goal in order to survive their game against the Rams, one where they came out slow. These Eagles will need to play a full 60 minute game at some point. I would like Denver here but I am not sold on Bo Nix yet. 326 yards against a very questionable Cincinnati defense a week after getting less than half that yardage against the Chargers is an inconsistency that isn't making me confident.

Rick's Pick: Philadelphia

Tennessee Titans at Arizona Cardinals - Sun 4:05pm

The Cardinals have a running back problem. A week after James Connor gets knocked out for the season, Trey Benson goes to the IR. Emari Demercado will be the lead back on the Cardinals depth chart. Marvin Harrison Jr. picked up a big touchdown last Thursday, but needs to overcome his drops big time if the Cardinals are going to be serious contenders in the west. For now, they're up against a Tennessee squad reeling from a bad loss to Houston last week.

Rick's Pick: Arizona

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Seattle Seahawks - Sun 4:05pm

This game's a challenge. Tampa Bay lost a game they could very well have won against the Eagles. The previous week, they won a game they could very well have lost against the Jets. Baker Mayfield has more than proven himself to be a capable quarterback once again, and Sam Darnold has done the same through the first four weeks for the Seahawks. This game could very well come down to the 12's.

Rick's Pick: Seattle

Detroit Lions at Cincinnati Bengals - Sun 4:25pm

Cincinnati's defense is floundering, and their offense without Joe Burrow is doing the same. Having the Detroit Lions who seem to have figured things out after their Week 1 loss may not be a good thing for the Bengals right now.

Rick's Pick: Detroit

Washington Commanders at Los Angeles Chargers - Sun 4:25pm, WXXA FOX 23

Bad news, Chargers fans. A week after a stunning loss to the New York Giants and Jaxson Dart, they return home to face a Commanders team eager to welcome Jayden Daniels back from injury. The return of Daniels should reignite the Commanders offense and should make this a very interesting contest. There was no way I was going to go with Cleveland or Carolina based on who they were facing and how those two teams had played in the first two weeks. Arizona and San Francisco was one that was going to go either way, it just seemed to go against the direction I picked. Chicago looked good for three quarters against Minnesota and those Bears showed up against the Cowboys, instead of the team that didn't show against the Lions.

And speaking of those Lions, that game against Baltimore was another that was destined to go one way or another and it just went the opposite of how I picked.

Onward to Week 4.

WEEK 4 GAMES

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals, Thursday, 8:15pm on Amazon Prime

Marvin Harrison Jr. needs to start catching wide open shots, not just for my fantasy roster hopes but because Arizona could have really used another opportunity to put points on the board in a game where they lost by 1. C.J. Brown and Saquon Barkley, in addition to Jalen Hurts. Matthew Stafford will have his hands full for the Rams.

RICK'S PICK: Philadelphia

New York Jets at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sunday, 1:00PM, FOX 23

No Justin Fields for the Jets. Means we'll see Tyrod Taylor taking the snaps for the Jets as they head to western Florida. Tampa Bay has had two rather uncomfortable wins, the last being the Monday Night thriller against Houston where they scored with 9 seconds left to win 20-19. Beating Atlanta by a field goal in Week 1 was tense, as well. While the Week 1 against Pittsburgh was close, that Week 2 was not close by far as the Bills quickly dismantled the Jets defense. I'm not confident in the Jets defense right now, even with Sauce Gardner.

RICK'S PICK: Tampa Bay

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans, Sunday, 1:00PM

Daniel Jones is 2-0, who would have believed this timeline going into the season? The Colts are wearing lucky horseshoes after getting that win against Denver last week, and maybe a little thankful that the referees called the levitating penalty on the first field goal attempt. After the second kick was good thanks in part due to the 15 yard penalty, Daniel Jones is now 2-0 in the league. A lot of this is on the back, figuratively and literally, Jonathan Taylor. He's been running circles around the defense in Weeks 1 and 2 and is poised towards having another good week here in Week 3. While the young quarterback for Tennessee is growing, he's not there yet.

RICK'S PICK: Indianapolis

Las Vegas Raiders at Washington Commanders, Sunday, 1:00PM

This is a tough one, especially with Jayden Daniels missing action. This game will require a daily watch on the injury report before posting a pick.

RICK'S PICK: Depends on Jayden Daniel's status.

Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers, Sunday 4:05PM

Are the Chargers for real? They definitely are a better team this season than they were last year. The problem is, Bo Nix has going through a few pains of late. 3 picks in the first two weeks and now having to face a good Chargers defense means Nix will definitely need to care for the football better. While the reason Denver is 1-1 is not because of Nix, but the special teams defense that caused the levitating penalty against Indianapolis, Nix will need to be able to keep up with Justin Herbert and the Chargers.

I just don't see it happening.

RICK'S PICK: Los Angeles Chargers

New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks, Sunday 4:05PM

Now let's be serious with regards to the Saints. The New Orleans Saints have been playing stronger than was expected at the start, but yet they still possess an 0-2 record. Some of it their doing, like a tight end dropping a touchdown on their way down. Seattle gaining the win over Pittsburgh was thanks to taking advantage of Pittsburgh miscues, but Sam Darnold needs to correct the mistakes.

This game should provide some confidence for the Seattle QB.

RICK'S PICK: Seattle

Dallas Cowboys at Chicago Bears, Sunday 4:25PM, FOX 23

Dallas gets prime slot because they are Dallas... this isn't even the best game in the 4pm slate.

The Cowboys got lucky. Russell Wilson was looking good for the Giants, until one mistake in a position where the Giants stood to win or tie that overtime thriller, allowing the Cowboys to win on the field goal try. While that wouldn't have convinced me to pick the Cowboys in most circumstances... they are playing the Chicago Bears.

The same Chicago Bears who may have looked fantastic through the first 3 quarters defensively against Minnesota, but they should of been leading by more. And then we saw that in action against Minnesota, and then worse when a very angry Detroit team came in and shell shocked the Bears. Caleb Williams isn't looking terrific yet, and Chicago fans are at the end of their rope.

RICK'S PICK: Dallas

Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49'ers, Sunday 4:25PM

THIS is the game that deserves more attention. Even if Brock Purdy doesn't suit up for San Francisco - he's questionable - the 49'ers have Christian McCaffrey and he is still one of the more exciting running backs in the NFL. They have defensive weapons. It'll be fun to see those weapons try to stop Kyler Murray and company for the Arizona Cardinals.

Overall this game may come down to Purdy's health report, so this one may need to wait for more injury reports.

RICK'S PICK: Depends on the status of Brock Purdy

Kansas City Chiefs at New York Giants, Sunday 8:20PM, NBC Channel 13

The Chiefs are 0-2. While many talking heads are using this as a massive talking point, I'm not. The Chiefs have a top-heavy schedule and once they get through their Sunday Night game against the Buffalo Bills later in the season, the schedule softens up substantially.

Xavier Worthy could be back in the Chiefs line up, and even if he's not, the question of who is getting the ball from Mahomes won't matter as much here./ I know there were members of the Miami Dolphins who were on injury reports heading into Week 1 but never did I see Tua having as dismal of a game as he did. Daniel Jones came on a mission, wanting to prove that his days as a New York Giants was not indicative of his true skill. Whether or not Indianapolis is for real will take a few weeks to settle, but Miami is looking very shaky.

Las Vegas Raiders @ New England Patriots: I thought the home atmosphere for New England would allow the Patriots to perform slightly better than the Raiders. Geno Smith looked solid against the Patriots, and he's got Pete Carroll calling the action from the sidelines.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ New York Jets: Aaron Rodgers must have heard what I have been saying about him being done. He shut me up with that 4 touchdown effort that not only silenced other critics, but increased questions about that Jets defense. And now that defense has to put up with the Buffalo Bills.

WEEK 2

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS @ GREEN BAY PACKERS - Thursday, 8:15pm, Amazon Prime

Jayden Daniels and company looked good, but they were facing the New York Giants. The Green Bay Packers are not the Giants, and have stars on both sides of the ball. That was a solid win over the Detroit Lions to emerge as a threat to still be playing come the late weeks of January.

RICK'S PICK - Green Bay Packers

CLEVELAND BROWNS @ BALTIMORE RAVENS - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS

Cleveland played Cincinnati much closer than I was expecting, but needs Joe Flacco to take much better care of the football. Giving a strong offense like Baltimore more chances to run and gun is a recipe for trouble, and if it wasn't for a Derrick Henry fumble, the Ravens would be along Cincinnati and Pittsburgh as Week 1 winners in the AFC North. Baltimore's defense needs some work, but not every week will be against a team like the Buffalo Bills.

RICK'S PICK - Baltimore Ravens

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS @ PITTSBURGH STEELERS - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX

DJ Metcalf gets to play the team he was a centerpiece of, now as a member of the Steelers. He had the most yards of any of the Steelers receivers against the Jets, but failed to find the end zone as Aaron Rodgers went to four different receivers for his touchdowns against the Jets. Chris Boswell's 60 yard rocket made the difference against the Jets.

Seattle took the lead thanks to Jason Myers's leg against San Francisco, but Brock Purdy and company drove down the field on the next drive to take the lead for good with 1:44 left. Ball security needs to be a priority for the Seahawks, who fumbled 3 times against the 49'ers, losing two of them.

Pittsburgh wowed me enough in Week 1 that I will have to side with the Black and Gold.

RICK'S PICK - Pittsburgh Steelers

BUFFALO BILLS @ NEW YORK JETS - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS (CBS 6 Albany)

Think the Jets had a moral victory against the Steelers? Here comes the Bills to eliminate your optimism.

Buffalo already leads the AFC East by a game after winning a game they had no right winning. After 55 minutes of shaky defense, Ed Oliver and the Bills defense finally slammed the door shut and Josh Allen and the offense did the rest to get them back from 15 points down. That defense will need to be stronger as they move through the season because not every team will provide opportunities for the Bills to come back from a multiple possession deficit in the 4th quarter.

Keon Coleman potentially showed improvement from last season, but will that momentum sustain in Week 2?

The Jets allowed Aaron Rodgers to throw 4 touchdowns against his former team, against a defense that supposed to be one of the better squads in the NFL. Justin Fields played well, but if it wasn't for a Chris Boswell 60 yarder, the Jets would have come away with the win. But Buffalo is too much.

RICK'S PICK - Buffalo Bills

SAN FRANCISCO 49'ERS @ NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX

The San Francisco 49'ers are going to be without George Kittle, already marked out for Week 2 with an hamstring injury. And if they weren't going to be up against the New Orleans Saints, I would be more concerned here. While New Orleans's game against Arizona was much closer than I had anticipated, I still am not impressed with the Saints enough to pick them here.

EDIT: It also has been announced that the San Francisco 49'ers will be without Brock Purdy, who is going to miss 2-5 weeks with a form of turf toe. Mac Jones is the 49'ers backup, but who will be Jones's backup is a question mark.

So ... hope Mac Jones doesn't get injured? This isn't enough for me to change my pick, however.

RICK'S PICK - San Francisco 49'ers

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS @ MIAMI DOLPHINS - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS

While New England disappointed me with their Week 1 loss to Las Vegas, nobody was more stunning than the Miami Dolphins. While this has traditionally been a trap game for the Patriots dating back to the years of Tom Brady, the Dolphins have not provided me any assurance that they have figured it out. Seeing Tyreek Hill's reactions to the Dolphins Week 1 loss to Indianapolis screams to me that the drama may only be building.

RICK'S PICK - New England Patriots

LOS ANGELES RAMS @ TENNESSEE TITANS - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS

Matt Stafford tossed for 245 yards with a touchdown against the Houston Texans, a playoff team that has lost enough talent that they may be outside looking in this season. It was not an inspiring game for Cam Ward against the Denver Broncos, completing only 42% of his passes for 112 yards. Maybe more telling is the 6 sacks that Ward took, showcasing concerns the offensive line might have a hard time protecting their young quarterback.

When it comes to the difference in lineups, I totally trust LA better.

RICK'S PICK - LA Rams

CHICAGO BEARS @ DETROIT LIONS - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX

For 45 minutes, Chicago looked unstoppable. Their defense absolutely swallowed up J.J. McCarthy and made him look so uncomfortable out there on the field. Caleb Williams looked hot through his first 10 passes. Then ... it came apart. A Bears team that should of been up by more was caught and overtaken by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.

It turned out to be the same ol' for a Chicago Bears team that disappeared off the map after the Hail Mary against the Washington Commanders last year help propel the Commanders season ... and essentially ended the Bears season only weeks into the young season.

Now their coach gets to go to Detroit, a team that he was the offensive coordinator of through last season's divisional championship run. A Detroit team that was kicked and punched by a Green Bay Packers team that has emerged as an early favorite to play the final Sunday of January. Detroit has weapons, but they sure didn't show on Sunday against the Packers.

The run game was non-existent, some because of the game script. But when David Montgomery only has 25 yards, that's telling. And that's on 11 carries. And Jarred Goff needs to prevent the turnovers, especially since the Bears were fed a Pick-6 in their game against Minnesota.

Detroit's got to get it together, as the week 3 against Baltimore could be harder to stomach at 0-2.

RICK'S PICK - Detroit

NEW YORK GIANTS @ DALLAS COWBOWS - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX (FOX 23)

The New York Giants looked terrible against the Washington Commanders. They were clearly overmatched as Russell Wilson was not able to make a difference in the Giants season. No touchdowns, and 168 yards that was obtained through a QB Rating of 59.3. It was evident who was winning that game early on.

Dak Prescott at least kept pace with the Philadelphia Eagles. Drives he began ended in touchdowns, even if it came thanks to Javonte Williams capping the drive with his 2 scores. CeeDee Lamb contributed with receiving 110 of Dak's 188 passing yards. Even if Micha Parsons is no longer in the Cowboys silver and blue, defensively the Cowboys did a better job at stopping the Eagles than the Giants were at stopping the Commanders.

RICK'S PICK - Dallas

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS @ CINCINNATI BENGALS - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS

Cincinnati is lucky to walk away with the win over Cleveland, after picking up the second worst yardage in all three categories in Week 1 - total, passing and rushing. Only two teams possessed the ball less than the Bengals did in Week 1. Yet they won, while holding the Browns to only 49 rushing yards.

Fans are hoping that's a sign that maybe Joe Burrow doesn't need to work his butt off this season for the defense to give up the game. Whether that's to be true will get tested against Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

There are a few in the internet who feels Jacksonville will emerge with the AFC South as Houston regresses. Lawrence threw for 178 yards against Carolina, but threw an interception as well. Travis Etienne Jr. rushed for 143 yards and added 13 more receiving yards.

Etienne will definitely test that Bengal defense, and we'll get a better look to see which of these two are perhaps coming out of their struggles that kept either team out of the playoffs in 2024.

RICK'S PICK - Jacksonville

CAROLINA PANTHERS @ ARIZONA CARDINALS - Sunday, 4:05pm, CBS

Meanwhile the team that faced Jacksonville struggled. Even after a weather delay that only delayed the inevitable. Bryce Young caused 3 turnovers, two on interceptions and a third on a lost fumble. Chubba Hubbard may have been a bright spot on Sunday, but the receiving corps need Young to get them the football.

Combined with the shaky preseason, it's already looking dire in Charlotte.

Arizona may not have looked sharp, but they did just enough to walk out of New Orleans winners in Week 1.

Kyler Murray threw for two touchdowns and 163 yards against the Saints. Now he needs to show further his growth in the National Football League before the Cardinals get ready for back to back games against their division.

Judging by how Carolina's defense played against Jacksonville, this might be the game.

RICK'S PICK - Arizona

DENVER BRONCOS @ INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - Sunday, 4:05pm, CBS

Denver may be 1-0, but it wasn't pretty.

Bo Nix connected on 25 of 40 passes for 176 yards, but threw two picks in the win. At least it was Tennessee, a team that wasn't eyed by predictors for the playoffs.

Bo can't be throwing picks against Indianapolis. Especially since the Colts picked off Tua twice in their stunning win over the Miami Dolphins. The Colts not only saw 272 yards from Daniel Jones, they had the greatest differential of time of possession in Week 1. Now maybe the Colts are not quite there talent wise this season, but for the first few weeks of the season, they're building momentum for when the schedule turns challenging heading into October

RICK'S PICK - Indianapolis

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES @ KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Sunday, 4:25pm, FOX (FOX 23)

Hey, Philadelphia... that was a bit nail-biting last week.

And I would worry more if the Eagles weren't about to face a Chiefs team that has question marks after their Week 1 loss to the Chargers down in Brazil.

After Xavier Worthy got knocked out by Travis Kelce on the third play of the season, a question of who Mahomes is going to give the ball to emerges. Hollywood Brown was the benefactor of Worthy's injury, picking up 99 yards on 10 receptions, and we know Mahomes can run. And there will be Kelce, But, it still leaves the Chiefs depleted on the wideouts until Rasheed Rice returns from his suspension.

The good news for Kansas City is that their Week 3 is against the New York Giants.

But they have to get through the Eagles first.

The Eagles shouldn't have made us sweat the amount they did against the Dallas Cowboys, but they survived. Some thanks to Jalen Hurts and his legs. He scored 2 of Philadelphia's 3 touchdowns, picking up more yards than Saquon Barkley did on fewer carries. Barkley came alive with his touchdown run, finishing with 60 total yards for the Eagles.

We'll have to see if the rust is shaken from the Eagles, or if they are going through the Super Bowl Hangover. If the Chiefs were healthy, I think this could be a tougher spot for the Eagles, especially at Arrowhead.

The true question is .. what's the over/under on number of Taylor Swift appearances on the FOX broadcast?

RICK'S PICK - Philadelphia

ATLANTA FALCONS @ MINNESOTA VIKINGS - Sunday, 8:20pm, NBC (Channel 13)

Minnesota... what was that?

You looked absolutely out of your element for 45 minutes. And then J.J. McCarthy got inspired and pieced together that 3 touchdown 4th quarter to overcome the Chicago Bears. If the first 3/4's of the game broke McCarthy's confidence, the final quarter restored it and then some.

But you're not going to get away with games like that all season. The Falcons got 298 yards from Michael Penix Jr. but the rushing was a distinct disappointment given the talent of Bijan Robinson on the Falcons roster. 12 carries for 24 yards.

Robinson did make up for his lack of rushing yards by leading the Falcons with 100 yards on 6 receptions, including a touchdown.

This game feels like a trap, because I don't know if we're going to get the Minnesota Vikings who got steamrolled for the first 45 minutes, or the comeback kings in the last 15. But momentum's on their side, at their home stadium.

RICK'S PICK - Minnesota

=== REST OF WEEK 2 PICKS COMING FRIDAY ==

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS @ HOUSTON TEXANS - Monday, 7:00pm, ABC (ABC 10)

RICK'S PICK -

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS @ LAS VEGAS RAIDERS - Monday, 10:00pm, ESPN

RICK'S PICK -

Think you can do better than me? Get your picks on the Q101.7 app for your chance to be eligible to win great prizes!

After 7 months of speculation after the Philadelphia Eagles won the Vince Lombardi trophy in February, we have reached the start of the NFL season.

For the next 18 weeks, 272 games will play out on Thursdays, (some) Fridays, (some) Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays... unless things get interesting and other days get used.

Let's take a look at Week 1 of the NFL Season, and remember you can join in and pick along with (or against) me.

DALLAS COWBOYS at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - Thursday, 8:20pm, NBC

The opening night game where the Eagles receive their rings and their Super Bowl Banner, and Dallas gets the "thrill" of watching. Then they get the "thrill" of playing a high-potent offense a week after they traded off Micha Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys still have Dak, and with Cee Dee Lamb, will have some power. Trevon Diggs remains in Dallas so he'll always be a threat to opposing quarterbacks.

But in the end, I think the weapons for Philadelphia are too much for this Dallas squad to overcome.

RICK'S PICK - Philadelphia

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS vs. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS - Friday, 8:00pm, YouTube (in Brazil)

Kansas City is looking to return to yet another Super Bowl, and is one of the top teams to watch yet again in the AFC. But who knows how much the Chiefs will be ready to play when they face the Los Angeles Chargers. Not only are they having to play a divisional rival, but they're doing it on the road ... thousands of miles away from home in South America. The fact this game is being played at a neutral site might actually help the Los Angeles Chargers, who with Justin Herbert could have the weapons to compete with the team that has been consistently good since drafting Patrick Mahomes.

This is going to be a fun one to watch, and I do think a rusty Kansas City Chiefs squad will have their hands full in this Week 1 matchup.

RICK'S PICK - LA Chargers

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS at ATLANTA FALCONS - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX

Baker Mayfield. He seemed done when the Cleveland Browns cut him a couple seasons ago, but he has made a turnaround with the Bucs. Mike Evans always finds ways to be in the discussion of top receivers in the NFL and is a welcomed asset to a fantasy roster. Atlanta's giving us a taste of Michael Penix Jr. under center, and Bijan Robinson as the explosive running option. But can he duplicate his 2024 success?

I think the Bucs will come out on top.

RICK'S PICK - Tampa Bay

CINCINNATI BENGALS at CLEVELAND BROWNS - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS

Joe Burrow didn't deserve what he got last year - a team he fought so hard to generate wins just not getting it done because of a suspect defense. The Bengals are one of the favorites of the teams who missed the postseason last season to make it this year. And it's easy to see why when you take a look at their offensive weapons.

But their biggest problem is going to be ... their division is tough. Baltimore and Pittsburgh offer great cases to be still playing come the second weekend of January and the Bengals have to face those two teams twice. But they also have to face Cleveland.

Now Cleveland has been quite an interesting study. Especially their decision to have 4 quarterbacks on their depth chart. Deshaun Watson is out on the reserve list, so he will not play Sunday. So the depth chart has Joe Flacco starting, with Dillon Gabriel as their second choice and this Spring's NFL Draft biggest faller Shedeur Sanders as the third in line.

But don't let Cleveland fool you. While people look at them to be the basement dwellers in the AFC North, they still have Jerome Ford shredding up yards in the backfield, and Jerry Jeudy serving up touchdowns.

This first Battle of Ohio will be entertaining, but I don't know if the Dawg Pound can be enough to trip up the south.

RICK'S PICK - Cincinnati

MIAMI DOLPHINS at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - Sunday, 1:00PM, CBS

Tua. How healthy is Tua going to be, is an extremely good question as we head into any game for the Miami Dolphins. But a look at this Miami team screams a big question - overall team health.

Because while Tua will be under center on Sunday, they've got plenty of players either questionable or doubtful for this game. Three of the four running backs on the depth chart carry an injury designation into Friday's practices, with De'Von Achane questionable, Jaylen Wright doubtful and Alexander Mattison doubtful.

Tyreek Hill is also questionable, after his oblique left him as a limited participant in Thursday's practice. While it's unlikely that will cause him not to play, it does raise the question who will then step up if Tua doesn't have Hill to throw to.

That's when you need to remember Jaylen Waddle is a Dolphin.

Then there are the Indianapolis Colts. And former Giants QB Daniel Jones, hoping to find a career rebuild, will get the nod for Sunday's game. Jonathan Taylor danced circles around opposing defenses last year as the primary back, even if it seemed his tailed off towards the end of the season. Michael Pittman Jr. should be strong as a wide out, but questions remain.

And if Hill plays, and Achane also in the lineup, Miami will be a tough Week 1 foe.

RICK'S PICK - Miami

CAROLINA PANTHERS at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX

Bryce Young showed promise last year for the Panthers, and has some strong weapons along with him on offense. Chuba Hubbard is the primary running back and could explode for a big season. Xavier Legette and Hunter Renfrow are strong targets for Young.

But that's if Young gets to throw. Their offensive line is banged up, with three of the line carrying an injury designation into the Friday practice session. Left Tackle Ikem Ekwonu is doubtful, and a weak offensive line could spell trouble for Young, who will spend more time running for his life than he will securing and throwing to his targets.

Trevor Lawrence wants to show last year was a fluke, and get the Jaguars back to the playoffs. And the defense will be stout for the Jags, with Josh Hines-Allen coming back to do what he does best, causing trouble for opposing offenses.

RICK'S PICK - Jacksonville

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS

Geno Smith and Pete Carroll reunite after a year apart as Carroll was named the head coach of the Raiders during the offseason. Smith enters the season after a career high* 70% completion rate last year with Seattle, just needing 857 yards to reach 20,000 total yards for his career. However, Smith also was picked off 15 times last year, second only to his rookie season with the New York Jets when he had 21.

He'll have Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker to throw to, and Brock Bowers also has emerged as a prime tight end in the NFL.

But those turnovers better be on the minds of the New England Patriots.

The New England Patriots are led by Drake Maye. Rhamondre Stevenson could have a hot season in the backfield and Stefon Diggs will be a player to watch, especially when Diggs sees his former Buffalo Bills come later in the season.

Maye has targets, now it's time to see if the Patriots can begin their climb out of the AFC East basement.

RICK'S PICK - New England

* - He had a higher completion rate in 2020, but with a significant smaller attempt number to the point that it wouldn't qualify.

ARIZONA CARDINALS at NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX

Okay, Arizona. You're in a tough division, and you have the weapons now to maybe show that you need to be watched when it comes to the NFC West. And I'm not just stating this because Kyler Murray is my quarterback on my fantasy roster.

James Conner in the backfield, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Zay Jones as your wideouts. Plus Trey McBridge as your tight end.

This is time to make a statement.

However, that statement will not be this week, because you are playing the New Orleans Saints. Not because the Saints are a dangerous team ... it's actually because of the opposite.

New Orleans is a lot of question marks, right down to their quarterback Spencer Rattler. Yes, the Saints will have players to watch for including Alvin Kamara in the backfield and Chris Olave and Brandin Cooks as wideouts. But New Orleans really doesn't scream to me as a team who will be fighting for a playoff spot in 2025 ... in fact, they are likely "fighting" for the #1 draft pick come December and early January.

RICK's PICK - Arizona

PITTSBURGH STEELERS at NEW YORK JETS - Sunday, 1:00pm, CBS

Aaron Rodgers is going to be under center and wanting to show his former club that he still has a spring in his step. It's hard for me to think he's going to burst out and show his elite play from his days in Green Bay.

For all the things said about the New York Jets, their defense is still rather strong. Sauce Gardner is always going to be generating headlines, and Jamien Sherwood and company also compliment this dangerous defense. I expect them to break up quite a few good looks from Rodgers.

And bear in mind, Justin Fields has the same monkey on the back as Aaron Rodgers, wanting to show his former team what they may be missing out on. Fields only was given a chance to play in 10 of the 17 games for Pittsburgh last season, only picking up 5 touchdowns.

So both teams will have that "wanting to show what the other is missing out on".

Which will make this a compelling Week 1 matchup.

RICK'S PICK - NY Jets

NEW YORK GIANTS at WASHINGTON COMMANDERS - Sunday, 1:00pm, FOX

Remember when the NFL tried to separate the Jets and Giants games into two different time windows? Those were the days.

The Giants are looking to snap the ball to Russell Wilson, with Jaxson Dart suited as the backup. Devin Singletary will be second to Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Malik Nabers should be watched as the wideout.

But Washington is stacked. Especially after Terry McLaurin finally got his deal done during training camp. Jayden Daniels emerged as one of the rising quarterbacks last year, especially after that Hail Mary against the Chicago Bears.

McLaurin isn't the only target for Daniels. Deebo Samuel is a threat, and so too is Zach Ertz as a tight end. And Austin Ekeler should still produce a solid season in the backfield.

Sorry, Giants fans, I don't see Big Blue winning this one.

RICK'S PICK - Washington

Whoops .... time got away from me on the late afternoon games.

Now, before I begin breaking down the brackets, let's note a few things.

1) There are a couple of changes this year. The Sectional Semifinals will remain at the Cool Insuring Arena the week of March 3rd, however, the Adirondack Thunder are at home the weekend of March 8th, and therefore the championships will be played at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.

2) The schedule is subject to change. It is still winter, after all, and many of us remember the patchwork Section 2 had to do to get the games to fit when the schedules got disrupted due to winter weather in 2023.

3) These picks are one man's opinion, and I will be wrong.

With that being said, let's break these brackets down.

CLASS AAA:

Outbracket:

#9 Guilderland (7-13) 43, #8 Schenectady (6-14) 47

Quarterfinals: All games at Hudson Valley Community College, Sunday, March 2nd

#8 Schenectady (7-14) 28, #1 Green Tech (11-7) 69
#5 Albany (12-6) 40, #4 Christian Brothers Academy - Albany (13-6) 61
#7 Saratoga Springs (9-11) 35, #2 Shaker (17-3) 80
#6 Colonie (8-11) 58, #3 Shenendehowa (18-2) 48

Semifinals: All games at Cool Insuring Arena, Thursday, March 6th

#4 Christian Brothers Academy (14-6) vs. #1 Green Tech (12-7) - 8:00pm
#6 Colonie (9-11) vs. #2 Shaker (18-3) - 6:30pm

Championship: At Hudson Valley Community College, Sunday, March 9th

Semifinal Winners - 4:15pm

ANALYSIS: Shaker got snubbed. I would get Green Tech getting the nod if their record was closer to that of Shaker, but it feels like Tech was awarded more for their schedule than Shaker was credited for running the table in the Suburban Council -- their loss to Niskayuna was a non-conference loss, and Niskayuna is the #1 seed in Class AA. Green Tech it seems was rewarded #1 through last year's state championship merit than this year's, but that's enough of the grievance.

Because it's going to need to be settled on the court.

The biggest challenge to Shaker will likely happen at the Cool Insuring Arena, when they could align with a rematch against Shenendehowa. Defending State Champs, Glens Falls hopes a trip to Glens Falls won't be the end of the road this time -- more because of where the State Championships are being held this year.

So the question here is ... can any team come close to Glens Falls?

The #2 seed in this bracket lost to Glens Falls twice by more than 30 points in the Foothills Council. Catholic Central is not the same squad that rivaled Glens Falls for the past two seasons as their chief scoring player from those two seasons went to a prep school this year, but can still be dangerous.

Then there's Hudson. Schuylerville having a tough season is the result of several factors including the football team claiming the State Championship back in December, and other athletes concentrating on other sports.

Mechanicville getting the #2 nod is thanks to their resurgence in the final weeks of the regular season. Part of that includes their win over Greenville that earned them the head to head that surely weighed in the committee's eyes when composing this bracket.

And if that becomes the championship, keep in mind that both teams beat each other by 11 points with the home team claiming each match. The team that has come close but hasn't been able to get over the hump in the past couple years, but complimented their regular season win over Duanesburg with a solid effort in the WAC Championship.

Duanesburg has a prolific scorer, who has been earning quite the attention. But they need to figure out this Berne-Knox-Westerlo team if they're going to go back to winning ways. Spa Catholic is going to be dangerous too ... it's hard to believe it's been 9 years since their last sectional championship.

North Warren gets boosted into Class C after claiming last year's Class D State Championship, and it will not be easy for the crew from Chestertown. Should they survive the first two rounds, a potential spot against undefeated Berne-Knox-Westerlo could be quite challenging. But here's the thing with the Cougars -- they knew they needed to challenge themselves, and pieced together a schedule that included a trip to Springfield, MA to face teams like Longmeadow (MA) and Yorktown ... also tackled Class AAA's top seeded Green Tech. Even though the Cougars lost that game soundly, it had to be a learning experience to prepare them for this.

But Whitehall getting seeded 8th with a 16 win season is crazy. You can tell the Railroaders were penalized heavily for that January 6th loss to Granville -- and now they open with Granville in the first round.

This might be the bracket that falls apart the most. Here's who I think will win.

The Big Game is Sunday, plotting the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans.

Kansas City is looking for the three peat. Philadelphia seeking their first time since 2018 when they knocked off the then dynasty of the New England Patriots.

So it's not the first time Philadelphia is seen as the team hoping to knock off the previous champs, but they have history with the Chiefs.

Two years ago, these two teams met in Arizona where Kansas City won their second championship in four years, winning 38-35.

But this is a much better Philadelphia team. All because of one addition, that makes New York sports fans unhappy.

Saquon Barkley.

The addition of the versatile running back has changed the dynamics of this offense, allowing the Eagles to do more with their talent. Less pressure on Jalen Hurts, because now they can hand the ball off to Barkley and let him work his magic. A.J. Brown has been the top receiver in 10 of the Eagles 17 regular season weeks, as well as the top receiver in the NFC Championship against Washington.

There's one other thing Philadelphia has over Kansas City ... more people want Philadelphia to knock off the Chiefs than to watch the Chiefs achieve NFL history through back-to-back-to-back championships.

But there's something to be said about the Kansas City Chiefs. They lost one game this season where they were fully trying, and they beat that team in the postseason when it mattered more. They won games in miracle ways - like Week 1 against Baltimore when a toe was the difference between a Ravens go-ahead touchdown and the Chiefs winning the game. Blocked field goals and other miraculous methods of winning have been the M.O. of the Chiefs.

Yes, people will credit the refs for the Chiefs winning some of their games, with even their AFC Championship being dissected by many for getting beneficial calls. But that's not the reason why the Chiefs are successful -- a big piece is Steve Spagnola keeping the Chiefs in range of getting these close victories through his defense. An underdiscussed part of their success story this year is how well Spagnola's defensive schemes work against other teams.

The addition of Xavier Worthy, thanks to trading with the Buffalo Bills in last year's draft to move up, has helped their receiving corps. Which has while it has lowered the productivity of Travis Kelce, that lack of productivity didn't hurt the Chiefs. De'Andre Hopkins also helps the Chiefs be better. Kareem Hunt in the backfield gives the Chiefs options to balance their playbook.

PREDICTION: The game will be close and tight, with both coaches unleashing everything they have been working on in their playbooks over the past season. Patrick Mahomes will have a stellar game, and Kareem Hunt will move the ball well. Same with Jaylen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. But I think the ability of Barkley to move the ball with style will show better.

Kansas City has had some tough turnovers of late, including two Patrick Mahomes fumbles in the same drive during the AFC Championship, though one was negated by an offsides penalty against Buffalo. If Philadelphia can capitalize on those opportunities, this could be a good night for the City of Brotherly Shove... err, Love.

Defense wins championships, and I think that's what will move the needle in the big game.

PHILADELPHIA wins 36-30.

https://www.classichitswnyq.com/blogs/q101-7-blog/post/cdta-should-link-glens-falls-and-saratoga-services/
CDTA should link Glens Falls and Saratoga services
2025-01-31T12:30:00+00:00
CDTA merged together with GGFT in 2024, now it's time for the agency to fill in the gap and merge the bus grid together.

With talks going around about the Capital District Transit Authority increasing fares to $1.50, therefore leveling Glens Falls with the rest of the CDTA bus service, there should be another discussion regarding unifying the bus system.

How about a bus line between Glens Falls and Saratoga Springs? The two cities separated by only 15 miles are more separate when you look at a transit map. Yes, you can take one of two Amtrak trains a day from Fort Edward to Saratoga Springs, but you can hardly make a day out of it since Amtrak changed the Fort Edward departure time on the Ethan Allen to be early afternoon -- and thus isn't reliable if you are someone seeking employment.

And Taxis and Ubers are expensive. And don't begin to mention the Northway Express, that service hasn't stopped in South Glens Falls in years.

Right now, by fixed service bus, the closest you will get to Saratoga Springs is on the 405-South Glens Falls line, which gets you as far south as Fawn Road near Exit 17 before it turns around to head back towards Glens Falls. There's another 11 miles to go before you are to reach Saratoga Springs, and the northernmost point on the Saratoga Springs CDTA grid -- the various shopping centers lining Route 50 in Wilton north of the city line.

A bus service linking the two cities would open up opportunities for residents of both cities and surrounding areas. North Country area residents would be able to take advantage of events and employment opportunities in Saratoga Springs, whether it be in downtown, the shopping district of Wilton or at the summer place to be, Saratoga Race Course. And vice versa, Saratoga region residents would be able to take advantage of the Glens Falls region, including transferring to the trolleys for summer work in the Lake George area.

Finally, service would bridge a gap in the CDTA grid -- thus finally linking all 7 counties of the CDTA's service area together. If someone wanted to, they could take a series of buses between Washington County and Montgomery County, or Warren County and Rensselaer County. When CDTA took over the Greater Glens Falls Transit operations at the start of 2024, they looked into ways of improving service to the Tri-Counties, what better way of improving service than linking us to the rest of the CDTA grid.

Granted this comes with some larger scale discussions. First, what direction would said service between the two cities take? Would it go directly down Route 9 and then over to the Wilton Mall? Or hop down Route 32 and 50 and provide a stop to those in Gansevoort? Second, how much would it cost to staff said bus run? What would be the break-even to allow service to be offered year round? How would it connect to the rest of the CDTA grid to allow for timely transfers between buses?

Those questions do need to be raised, especially given taxpayer funding. It's getting interesting out there as trades are being made and some of the postseason favorites are showing up in each division.

Here's one man's opinion on the winners and losers of all 8 divisions, and remember -- this is only one man's opinion.

AFC EAST

WINNER: The Buffalo Bills - The Bills are not the best looking team in the AFC, but they're getting the benefaction of being in a division where the other three are just getting in their own ways. New England is a former shell of what it used to be in the days Tom Brady took charge of the offense that won countless Vince Lombardi trophies. Miami is nowhere near the same without Tua under center, the injury in the first meeting against Buffalo has destroyed their hopes for this season. Then there's the New York Jets, a team who had high hopes this season ...

LOSER: The New York Jets - You can really pick the other three teams for this, but the New York Jets are a team with a healthy quarterback this season after last year's injury took them immediately out of the running. So what happened? A coaching change, a deal for a wide receiver and various other concessions later, and they're still coming apart. Injuries aren't helping, but Aaron Rodgers isn't a young quarterback. He's getting up in age and just had to spend a year away from the game due to last year's injury. Just because Tom Brady played into his 40's and was able to compete at a high level doesn't mean that will work for all quarterbacks. Rodgers has some upside, but as the days go by, that upside is diminishing rapidly.

PREDICTION: The Bills already have a 2.5 game advantage and won't have the Patriots until the end of the season. Even though it's been shaky, even this past Sunday before they came together in the second half, this division is quickly becoming the Bills' division to lose.

NFC EAST

WINNER: The Washington Commanders - It may not be them winning the division, but the Commanders have learned through the first weeks of this season that they have a promising quarterback, if he stays healthy. Jayden Daniels has emerged as one to watch in the future after not much was being said of the rookie going into the season -- at least as far as Rookie of the Year candidates. Philadelphia could have their number with both match ups coming up in the next couple months, but you have to think the future is brighter for Washington than it has been for a long time.

LOSER: The New York Giants - Losing Saquon Barkley to Philadelphia hurt, even before the Giants faithful had to watch what the former runner back did against their team on Sunday. Daniel Jones has become the fourth ranked quarterback in this division and the Giants have a lot of holes on their squad overall. The most the Giants can hope for is that the Eagles are playing for nothing come January 5th and thus Barkley can't hurt the Giants again.

PREDICTION: This division still aligns with the Philadelphia Eagles . The Cowboys aren't there and are currently surpassed by the Washington Commanders as the second best in the division.

AFC NORTH

WINNER: The Baltimore Ravens - Hear me out... take an explosive offense and add another explosive name in Derrick Henry, and watch the fireworks fly as the Ravens have picked up an incredible sound offense between receiving and passing. The best team in the AFC last year wants to get back to the Super Bowl and are working at cleaning up the problems that prevented them from getting their last January against the Chiefs.

LOSER: The Cleveland Browns - It's a loud sign when the Browns are already trading away talent by Week 6. Add the extra effect of the majority of the fans in the league rooting against you for continuing to employ Deshaun Watson as your quarterback after his Happy Ending accusations during his time in Houston. And cheering when said heavily-priced quarterback gets injured. The Browns term of relevancy was short lived as they dive back into the realm of mediocrity.

NFC NORTH

WINNER: The Minnesota Vikings - The Vikings may have just lost their first game in a hard fought effort against the Detroit Lions, but hardly anyone was expecting the Vikings to even be close to the top of the division after naming Sam Darnold ... the same Sam Darnold that was seeing ghosts as quarterback of the New York Jets .. as their starter. The career revitalization for the Vikings signal-caller is astounding, and combined with what we're seeing from the Jets with quality talent and still losing games, it's more evidence that the issues we're seeing in East Rutherford, New Jersey is not just the talent alone, but deeper than that.

LOSER: Umm.... the Chicago Bears?? - The Chicago Bears are above .500 this season which is refreshing after landing the top picks of the NFL draft for two years straight, but because the rest of the division is playing out of their mind through the first 7 weeks of the season, hardly anyone has noticed. The offense is starting to gel, which will make those divisional games in the NFC North a treat to watch ... if we get the chance to.

AFC SOUTH

WINNER: The Houston Texans - The additions to the Texans offensive core have paid dividends and are a big reason why they have emerged as the top team in the South. CJ Stroud was already shown to be a competent quarterback, but the addition of more talent in the names of Stephon Diggs and Joe Mixon have improved this team to greater lengths. And with a win over Buffalo already in its pocket, it could lead to more than one home game coming up in the playoffs this January should the success continue.

LOSER: The Jacksonville Jaguars - The team that came close to knocking off the Chiefs a couple years ago in the Divisional Round of the AFC Playoffs have fallen off ... hard. Trevor Lawrence had some decent years, but his quality has dropped this year. The defense doesn't look as sharp as they did in the "Sacksonville" days.

NFC SOUTH

WINNER: The Atlanta Falcons - There were questions how Kirk Cousins would do with this Falcons offense. Several eyes were looking at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and only the Bucs, forgetting the Falcons have been piecing together a quality offense core with Bijan Robinson in the backfield. And the Falcons have one win over the Bucs already, and the two face again this week.

LOSER: The New Orleans Saints - Some could see Carolina taking this honor, but the Saints have been decimated by injuries, and what was a team we thought was potentially a strong team to watch after the first two weeks against Carolina and Dallas have fallen off considerably over the last five.

AFC WEST

WINNER: The Denver Broncos - Not the Chiefs. The reason why not the Chiefs is because even though they are the last undefeated squad in the NFC after knocking off San Francisco this past week, the Broncos are a team that suffered so much last season, traded away Russell Wilson to the Pittsburgh Steelers and had a lot of question marks after Bo Nix's first weeks of the season. But wins over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New York Jets, and last week Sean Peyton got revenge against his old stomping grounds in New Orleans. The Broncos are not winning the division, let's get that straight ... this is Kansas City's to win until otherwise stated, but there's a small sight of hope emerging in the Mile High city. Granted the Chiefs look to be bringing in DeAndre Hopkins in from the Titans to help bolster the receiver corps for Patrick Mahomes, overall -- who expected the Broncos to be in the mix?

LOSER: The Las Vegas Raiders - Sending Davante Adams to the Jets is a sign that the Raiders are knowing they are cooked this season, and now get an absolutely brutal 6 game stretch where they face the Chiefs twice, a Bengals squad that slowly showing signs of their normal selves, plus a Dolphins team that could have Tua back in time. And all of this without a key quarterback under center.

NFC WEST

WINNER: The Seattle Seahawks - The Seahawks aren't holding onto the top record of the division by much, but have less reason to feel worried about the squad as a whole compared to the other teams in the division. San Francisco sustaining a big hurt with Brandon Aiyuk going out to injury this past week and was already missing Christian McCaffrey. Los Angeles is seeking to part ways with Cooper Kupp. The Seahawks won't have an easy time this week with the Buffalo Bills visiting.

LOSER: The San Francisco 49'ers - What has been a rough season for the Super Bowl runner-up was made harder with Aiyuk's injury. This team has been decimated by injuries yet again, and one has to wonder when it's going to end for the team from Santa Clara. If things don't turned around fast, that stretch against the Seahawks, Packers and Bills could become quite painful fast.

https://www.classichitswnyq.com/blogs/q101-7-blog/post/heart-cheap-trick-show-at-the-mvp-arena-in-august-has-been-postponed/

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Heart were set to perform at the MVP Arena on August 10th, but that show will not happen as scheduled.
