If you are a movie fan that frequents theaters frequently like I do, you most likely saw tons of previews for the new horror film, "Speak No Evil" starring James McAvoy. Well last week, I made the trek to see the film, knowing very little other than that knowing last minute that this was an actual remake of a 2022 Danish film of the same name.
The plot is very generic and familiar: An American family is on vacation in Italy and meet up with a charismatic and carefree family and hit it off and quickly become friends. The American couple is going through personal issues with job loss, infidelity, parent/child dynamics, etc. The change of scenery was needed and meeting up with a dynamic James McAvoy and his family was a plus! A few weeks later McAvoy's character invites the family to come out and spend time at their reclusive farmhouse. From there, the plot thickens and we have a solid psychological build-up that unfortunately falls apart at the end and becomes predictable. James McAvoy & Mackenzie Davis rise above the material and shine in their respective roles, but the ending feels rushed and messy!
I also was able to catch the original! As usual the original is better and the ending is a "gut punch" so to speak. The ending is completely different in both films! I prefer the more bleak ending of the original myself!
