52 years ago this week back in 1972...Deep Purple released their classic record "Machine Head"....their sixth studio album and their best selling record to this day! Recording for the album took place in December, 1971 at The Grand Hotel in Switzerland which had been closed for the season. But this was a secondary choice. Originally...The record was to have been recorded at The Montreux Casino in Switzerland...but that plan was aborted after the casino burned to the ground during a Frank Zappa concert when a fan fired a flare gun at the ceiling...the inspiration for the infamous song..."Smoke On The Water"...The personnel of Deep Purple at this time was composed of their legendary line up of Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillon, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice. Aside from the classic track "Smoke On The Water'...The record also contains some other classics too...Including "Space Truckin'", "Highway Star", and "Lazy" among others. The record "Machine Head" has also been considered to be very influential in the development of the heavy metal genre of Rock which became popular later on in the 1970's and the 1980's....
Deep Purple's iconic record..."Machine Head"....
