42 years ago this week back in 1982...The Clash released their fifth and their most successful album ever..."Combat Rock"...The record made it up to #7 on The US Billboard Albums Chart and all the way to #2 on the UK albums Chart back in 1982. It was their follow up to the legendary Clash releases "London Calling" from 1979 and "Sandinista" which had been released in 1980. And like those two previous records...."Combat Rock" was originally intended to be a two record set and it was originally going to be titled "Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg" but unfortunately...Conflicts with in the band resulted in the album being reduced to one record and the name ultimately being changed to "Combat Rock"...The over all themes of the record focused on authoritarianism, The Viet Nam War and the decline of American society. The record featured two very successful hit singles too...including "Rock The Casbah" and "Should I Stay Or Should I go"...As things turned out....The Clash would release one more album after this..."Cut The Crap"....which was released over three years later....in late 1985. And The Clash disbanded with in weeks of the release of that record...
