42 years ago this week back in 1982...The self titled debut record form the band Asia which had been released in March, 1982...debuted on the US Billboard Album Chart where it would eventually reach the #1 position for nine consecutive weeks and also become the best selling record of the entire year of 1982! The band was formed in London in 1981 and their debut record was highly anticipated throughout 1981! Asia was considered to be a "supergroup" and the original line up of the band was impressive to say the least! The band was comprised of lead vocalist and bassist John Wetton...formerly of the bands King Crimson, Uriah Heap and U.K.....guitarist Steve Howe from the band Yes...Keyboardist Geoffrey Downes...formerly from Yes as well as The Buggles....and drummer Carl Palmer from Emerson Lake & Palmer! The single "Heat Of The Moment" from that debut record from Asia is still their top charting single and their best known song to this very day! The song "Only Time Will Tell" was also a successful hit single from this record. The track "Sole Survivor" has also received a significant amount of FM Rock radio airplay over the years too...The album's outstanding cover art work was created by Roger Dean who had also produced the famous album cover art work for records from the band Yes over the years as well!
The first record from the "Supergroup" Asia debuted on the charts this week in 1982!
