As the demolition begins on the Central Warehouse, plans for a new state of the art facility revealed for Downtown.
On Tuesday, the demolition of the Central Warehouse was underway. On Wednesday, plans for a new 9 story office tower were revealed in Downtown Albany.
First Columbia has its eye on a vacant lot at 705 Broadway for an office building that includes plans for a restaurant, mixed use and some residential space. The project would mark the first time in almost 20 years a new office was built in Downtown.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan welcomes the concept, telling CBS 6:
The proposed nine-story, Class A office building and apartments at 705 Broadway is very welcome news for Downtown Albany and fills a crucial void in the full revitalization of Clinton Square. My team and I have been working closely with Kevin Bette and First Columbia for weeks on this proposal, and we are excited that we have reached this critical step in the planning process.
A separate 4 story building is also part of the plans, it's expected to include space for apartments and commercial use.
The proposal will be reviewed by the city's planning board on Thursday, a decision on whether the project can move forward will happen in September.
