Hollywood legend Robert Redford, founder of the Sundance Film Festival, has died at the age of 89 at his home in Utah. His publicist confirmed the news, stating that he passed away surrounded by loved ones. The family has requested privacy during this time, and no details about the cause of death have been disclosed. Redford's legacy as an actor and filmmaker will be greatly missed.

Redford also had ties to New York’s Capital Region. His 2012 film The Company You Keep featured him playing a lawyer based in Albany. Earlier in his career, scenes from The Way We Were (1973) were filmed at Union College in nearby Schenectady. He later returned to the region for The Horse Whisperer (1998), which included sequences shot at Saratoga Race Course and in Ballston Spa.
