A high-speed police chase through Saratoga County ended Monday with a stolen car in the Hudson River.

According to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, a minor stole the car in Schenectady and was first spotted on Grooms Road in Halfmoon. Deputies say the driver sped off, and the chase was called off out of safety concerns.

A short time later, the vehicle was seen again at D & R Village Mobile Home Park. From there, the driver took off toward Waterford, hit a guard rail near the busy intersection of Route 146, Route 4, and Route 32, and nearly struck a construction flagger on Third Street.

The car then drove across a lawn on John Street and straight into the Hudson River. Police say the driver tried to swim across but was quickly caught and arrested.

The teen’s name is being withheld. Charges include reckless driving and reckless endangerment. The case is now in Saratoga County Family Court.
