53 years ago this week back in 1971...Jethro Tull released their fourth studio album..."Aqualung" which turned out to be their most successful and best selling record of all time!!! Side one features the classic title track..."Aqualung" and side two seems to have an underlying theme that takes a rather cynical view of religion. The record was considered to be a concept album by critics at the time of its release although the band strongly denied this to be the case. In fact....front man and lead vocalist Ian Anderson stated that the record was "just a bunch of songs"...What ever it was...No one can deny the popularity of this record as it reached #7 on the Billboard Album chart back in 1971 and it made it to #4 on The UK Album Chart at the time. To this day...It is Jethro Tull's best selling record of all time. In fact more than seven million copies of this album have been sold so far! The record is also one of the Jethro Tull albums that was also released in quadraphonic sound which had become somewhat popular in the early and mid-1970's. And the record was released on Compact Disc in 1996....
Jethro Tull's masterpiece "Aqualung" released this week in 1971...
