The store was evacuated as crews arrived.
A car fire outside the Stewart’s on Route 5 in Glenville Monday night damaged the building, forcing the store to close temporarily.
Beukendaal Fire Chief Joshua Walter says the fire started around 7pm. The vehicle was parked near the store, causing the flames to spread to the exterior. Crews were able to stop it before it reached the inside of the store.
No one was hurt, but smoke, water, and ceiling damage kept the store closed through Tuesday. The Daily Gazette says repairs are already underway, with hopes of reopening by Wednesday.
