A catastrophic day in Saratoga County and the Capital Region
On May 24, 1998 a rare but devastating tornado leveled parts of the City of Mechanicville and the Town of Stillwater. Dozens of homes and buildings were destroyed, not to mention vehicles and other property.
The category F3 tornado touched down at 4:30pm in the town of Halfmoon and quickly gained strength as it swept through residential and commercial areas.
Remarkably, there were no deaths.
